Inception:

Launched in 2015, the program was conceived by Dr. Mukta Vasal, PhD, and Mr. Nitin Bindlish with the simple intent of improving the lives of families who are familiar with the day-to-day challenges inherent in supporting a special needs child. Mr. Bindlish brings 15 years of business experience with Indian health care start-ups and top-tier multinationals such as KPMG, Aon Hewitt and American Express. Dr. Vasal has 20 years of experience with special needs children and relevant certifications from the University of North Carolina, Purdue University and University of Southern California in the U.S. The duo applied their skills, training and experience to create and deliver an innovative solution that supports the needs of parents of autistic children.

What they do:

Anecdotal evidence suggests that even when parents are able to find suitable, accessible therapy for their child, they are often left in the dark with respect to how the therapy is conducted and what they can do to reinforce the learning at home. mom’s belief was created to reverse this practice by giving parents the tools and support they need to help their child. The program essentially extends the reach of proven therapy solutions by enabling parents with tried-and-tested resources that are easy to use and effective.

A few prominent USPs:

Empowerment: While some therapy programs include parent participation, mom’s belief is a unique special needs program in India, where parents effectively partner with a child psychologist to help their child. Parents are instrumental in designing the IEP for their child. They learn how to use mom’s belief resources to advance their child’s skills, which helps them to develop a deeper understanding of their child’s skills, an ability to identify and promote their child’s strengths, and confidence in their capacity to act as their child’s support.

Professional support : mom’s belief assigns an experienced child psychologist to each child. The psychologist helps the parents understand the child’s skills and strengths, assists them in creating an individualized education plan (IEP) for this child, customizes resources based on the child’s specific needs and provides support and guidance to the parents throughout the program.

Customization : mom’s belief recognizes that there are no two special needs children who have the same set of needs. Our psychologists customize resources that are delivered to their home, choosing from a catalogue of over 200 learning tools to create a set of resources that will augment the particular skills identified in each child’s IEP.

Convenience : mom’s belief eliminates all challenges including travelling by: 1) harnessing communication technologies to deliver professional support; 2) customizing skill development resources to meet the specific developmental needs of the child; and 3) delivering resources on a regular basis using an efficient logistics partner.

Parents receive training on the program’s tools and techniques in one-hour sessions held each week in person or via Skype. Training sessions are conducted by child development experts, who also monitor the progress of each child to maximize the impact of the learning plan and resources. Regular monitoring also allows them to keep the program precisely tailored to the needs of the child.

Advisory Board:

The company has attracted prominent individuals to its advisory board, including Mr. Rajan Anandan, managing director of Google Southeast Asia and India; Ms. Radhika Chopra, entrepreneur, art philanthropist and former economist with the US Federal Reserve; Dr. Prerana Mohite, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, MS University of Baroda; Justice retd. AP Shah, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court; and Tamana Special, led by Founder and President Dr. Shayama Chona, PhD, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan award and Director Dr. Ritu Juneja, PhD.

Future Plans:

They have a workforce of over 25 employees and are rapidly increasing their pool of clinical talent, growing to 50-100 in the next six months.

Quotes from the Founders:

“The impact we’re having on special needs children and their families contributes to the underlining success of our program, rather than considering just monetary benefits. The joy that parents experience when they see visible improvement is priceless and it’s these accomplishments that keep us motivated to our vision and grounded to our beliefs,” said CEO Nitin Bindlish. “We are driven by our goal to touch a million lives over the next six to seven years – that is at the forefront of everything we do.”

“For a child’s skill development, parents play a dynamic and crucial role. This is why we emphasize on imparting professional knowledge to parents so that they can play a proactive role, rather than a passive one in the development of their child. Studies show that when parents are actively involved in their child’s therapy, the rewards are measureable and long-lasting. Our intent is to eliminate their doubts and bolster their self-confidence, putting them in the driver’s seat.” said Dr. Vasal.
