Moms, your baby can recognize your hug!

New Delhi, April 12, 2017: A mother’s hug does more than simply putting a smile on her baby’s face. Her embrace comforts, protects and contribute to her child’s healthy development with benefits that sustain way into adulthood. A survey conducted by Huggies, the world’s leading diaper brand, reveals that 90% of doctors believe that babies can recognize their mother’s hug.

As a part of its new ‘Power of Hugs’ campaign, the brand surveyed over 2000 moms and 500 medical professionalswith the aim ofunfolding the miraculous power of a Hug between a mother and her baby.

‘Moms, hug your baby more often’ – recommend doctors

In addition to 600 existing medical studies on the effects of how crucial mother’s hugs are for babies, the Huggies survey highlighted some interesting findings about the way mothers and doctors perceive this wonderful force of nature. 76% physicians feel that a mother’s hug can improve the baby’s immunity. It does not come as a surprise, considering how a hug is nothing less than a miracle tonic that can stabilise the baby’s heart rate, strengthen the immune system, increase oxygen levels, and even reduce crying and stress. A mother’s warm, instinctive embrace initiates a cascade of hormones that can help in regulating the body temperature as well. 85% of doctors, in fact, encourage moms to embrace their children more often, given the health benefits these have for infants.

Moms back the power of hugs

However, the survey also revealed that despite the scientific backing and compelling research that supports the power of hugs, 80% of moms were not aware that hugging had health benefits for their little ones. Even so, hugging their loved ones is an integral part of their bonding process. In fact, 90% of Indian mother’s express love for their children by embracing them, and 91% believe that hugging them 7-8 times a day helps ease their baby’s anxiety to a large extent. The survey states that 91% of Indian moms also recall the first hug shared, and about 95% said that they found immense relief and comfort when hugging their baby immediately after delivery.

Expert Clinical Psychologist, Dr. PrernaKohli elaborates on the Power of Hugs saying , “While most parents believe the benefits of hugs are purely emotional, this survey from Huggies throws light on the numerous other benefits that stem from a simple embrace. Hugs help in the development and growth of babies in multiple ways. So, don’t stop giving your baby your medicinal hug!”
