Narayana Health Bengaluru launches ‘Change of Heart’ campaign to commemorate World Heart Day

Bengaluru, November 17, 2018: Narayana Health, Bengaluru announces the launch of its week long campaign ‘Change of Heart’ to commemorate World Heart Day which is observed on 29 September 2018. The campaign comprises of several activities that will be conducted across regions in Bengaluru including fundraiser art exhibition in association with Akanksha Artist Group, ‘Heart and Cycle’ installation at public forums, Walkathon at select locals and cardiac rehab program at Narayana Multispecialty Hospital, Whitefield.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Sanjay Mehrotra, Senior Consultant – CardiologyNarayana Health City, said, “Heart disease is getting younger day by day in India and striking at early ages. There has been an increased incidence of heart problems in youngsters owing to faulty lifestyle which includes intake of junk foods, lack of physical activities, increasing stress levels, increased smoking and drinking habits. However, 80% of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD) could be avoided if factors like tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol are controlled. Regular screening and avoiding sedentary lifestyle is the only way to keep heart up and doing.  Further, taking care of the small eating habits to regularly exercising are the best preventive measures one should take besides seeking doctors advice.”    

The fundraiser exhibition in association with Akanksha Artist group will showcase over 100 paintings from 56 emerging and well-known artists at Rangoli Metro Art Centre. The artworks priced from INR 3000 to INR 80,000 will be displayed over a period of one week. 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the artworks will be donated to Narayana Hrudayalaya Charitable Trust, the non-profit wing of Narayana Health aiming to provide complimentary cardiac treatment to the underprivileged.

Another interesting ‘Heart and Cycle’ installation will be mounted at Gopalan Mall at Old Madras Road and Global Tech Park, Whitefield. The objective of this initiative is to highlight the correlation between a ‘Healthy Heart’ and ‘Healthy Habits’. Participants need to pedal the cycle to illuminate the heart which is attached to the overall installation. A Walkathon will also be held at Gopalan Mall, Old Madras Road on Sunday, 30th September at 6 am to mark the occasion of World Heart Day.

Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre and Narayana Multispecialty Hospital, Whitefield have launched a dedicated Cardiac Rehabilitation service on this World Heart Day. The rehab program is aimed at patients of all ages undergoing or those who have undergone treatment for coronary heart disease or cardiac failure. “The program is structured and personalized to each individual, providing lifestyle modification with utmost care thereby ensuring patients achieve their fullest potential in physical and psychological health”, said Dr. Nagamalesh U M, Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Transplant Physician at Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre, located on New BEL Road, Mattikere in Bengaluru. The centre will assist in improving the health and well-being of patients through exercise training, education on heart healthy lifestyle, and counselling on diet and stress management.
