National Conference on Herbal

Ahmedabad, 19 Mar, 2015: L. M. College of Pharmacy organized two day national conference on ‘Frontiers and avenues in the field of Herbal Drug Research’ on 6th and 7 th February 2015, at Ahmedabad Management Association. Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Ketan Patel [Manager, Troikaa Pharmaceuticals] and Guest of Honour Dr. B. M. Shah [Advisor, Ahmedabad Education Society] with the key note address by Dr. Malati G. Chauhan [Former Dean, Jamnagar Ayurved University, Gujarat].

On first day there were 5 scientific sessions by eminent speakers. Dr. V. K. Joshi [Faculty of Ayurved, IMS, BHU, Varansi] delivered his talk on ‘Global scenario of research in ayurvedic medicines’, Dr. V. P. Bhatt [Scientist, herbal Research & Devt. Institute, Gopeshwar] gave his recommendation on ‘Significance of documentation of ethnomedicinal data’ then Dr. Karan Vasisht [Professor, Inst. Of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Punjab University] said about ‘Designing solutions for challenges in standardization of herbal drugs’. Mr. Kaushik Shah [Manager, Sushen Medicamentos pvt. Ltd., Aahmedabad] shared his expertise in ‘Blueprint of Herbal Drug Manufacturing Unit’. The day ended with a panel discussion session chaired by Dr. Punderikakshudu [Director, L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad]. The panel members were eminent personalities from the field of herbal drug research.

After breakfast second day started with Dr. Shakti Vinay Shukla [Principal Director, Fragrance & Flavour Development Centre FFDC, Kannauj] who shared his views on ‘Opportunities of Aromatic plants in fragrance & flavour industry’. Later Dr. R. S. Bhakuni [Scientist, CIMAP, Lucknow] delivered his speech on ‘Chemistry and structural modifications of lead therapeutic molecules of medicinal plants’. Dr. Amit Agarwal [Director, R & D, Natural Remedies, Banglore] shared his knowledge on ‘Approaches in Herbal drug analysis’.

There was a Poster presentation session which included about 42 research papers. In the Post Lunch sessions, Dr. Lal Hingurani [Director, Pharmanza Herbal pvt. Ltd., Anand] gave his views on ‘Current need to link research with commercial sustainability of medicinal plant products’ then Dr. B. Ravishankar [Director, SDM centre for Research in Ayurveda & allied Sciences, Karnataka] showed his point of view on ‘Preclinical studies for Ayurvedic sector’.

In Valedictory function Chief Guest Dr. Hemant Koshia [Food & Drug Controller of the state] and Dr. N. R. Sheth [Member, Gujarat Public Service   Commission] distributed the prize and appreciated the event success. Conveners of the conference, Dr. Mahesh Chhabria [Principal] and Dr. Mamta Shah [Head,Dept. of Pharmacognosy] acknowledged and thanked speakers, delegates and all members for the success of the event.CCI Newswire
