Ahmedabad, Mar 30, 2015 – L.M. College of Pharmacy organized a National Level Seminar and Workshop on “New Horizons in Drug Design” from 1st to 3rd March, 2015. The function was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. C. J. Shishoo [Eminent Scientist and Retd. Principal, L.M. College of Pharmacy] and Guest of Honor Dr. Andy Morley [Chief Scientific Officer, Opal Oncology Ltd.,. U.K]. Key note address was given by Dr. Andy Morley on Drug discovery: Challenges and opportunities.
There were different scientific sessions by eminent speakers. Dr. P. C. Jha [Associate Professor, Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar] delivered his talk on “Recent advances in Computational structure based drug design: Challenges and opportunities”. Dr. Pathik Brahmkshatriya [Group Leader, Oxygen Healthcare Res. Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad] spoke on “A systematic approach on docking and virtual screening” and also shared his expertise in “Visualization/manipulation of molecular structures – Key to successful drug design” by a demonstrative session. Dr. Nilesh Dagia [Vice President – Biology and Pharma-cology, Oxygen Ventures Ltd., UK] gave an over-view on “Life Sciences Innovation at O2h”. More than 100 participants were present in the seminar. The day ended with concluding talk by the organizing secretary Dr. Mahesh T. Chhabria [Principal] and vote of thanks by coordinator [Dr. Sindhu B. Ezhava]. The workshop on 2nd and 3rd March was organized by Schrodinger. Selected 35 delegates from various colleges participated for the workshop. Dr. Ravi kumar [Senior Scientist, Schrodinger] and Mr. Vinod [Junior Scientist, Schrodinger] demonstrated various Schrodinger tools like Quikprop (ADME property calcu-lation), Canvas (QSAR), Phase (Pharmacophore modeling) and Glide (Rigid and Induced-fit flexible docking). At the end of the event all delegates were overwhelmed by the information gathered from the expert speakers. They were thankful to the organizing committee for providing a platform for such an event.
