The bike expedition is going to be a curtain raiser to the 2nd edition of world’s only Dialysis Olympiad
Bangalore, October 14, 2017: NephroPlus, India’s largest dialysis delivery network and a pioneer in redefining dialysis delivery in India, unveiled the first ever bike expedition by those undergoing dialysis. Driven by a guest-centric (at NephroPlus all patients are called guests) approach, the brand strives to encourage the people on dialysis to lead lives as close to normal as possible, letting them work, travel and have fun. Taking this vision further, the bike expedition which has 6 bikers covering around 400 KM across 8 cities, reinstates the brand’s message of empowering the dialysis community, loud and clear.
The expedition which took place over the course of four days, started from Jalandhar on 9th October 2017, covering sectors of Ludhiana, Khanna, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Panipat, and Sonipat and concluded with a felicitation in Connaught Place, Delhi today. The bikers were felicitated by Rajinder Singh Rahelu, Arjuna Awardee, bronze medal 2004 Paralympic Greece, Silver medal 2014 Commonwealth Scotland at an event held in New Delhi today.
The event serves as a curtain raiser to the second edition of world’s only Dialysis Olympiad to be held in Thyagaraj Sports Complex, New Delhi on 29th October 2017.
The format of the expedition was a relay, where individual riders cover a pre-set distance, post which the baton is passed on to the rider in the next location. Taking utmost consideration of the health of the participants, a team of doctors and nurses with an ambulance accompanied the bikers throughout the expedition. With NephroPlus centers present across all the locations of the bikers’ route, their dialysis sessions were managed without any disruptions.
The longest ever bike expedition by dialysis guests is an attempt to reinstate that with the backing of expert care, anybody can dare to dream big and achieve their dreams. NephroPlus has always resorted to innovative solutions to enhance the quality of lives of its patrons. This event which revealed how courageous, determined and full of life people on dialysis actually are, is a clarion call to the next big event by the brand later this month, the Indian Dialysis Olympiad. This path-breaking event unrolls a series of Olympics style activities like running, cycling, basketball etc. exclusively for those on dialysis. The first edition of the event which was held in 2015 in Hyderabad, witnessed participation from hundreds of champions across the country, who fought their illness to reveal their extraordinary talents.
Vikram Vuppala, Founder and CEO, NephroPlus said, “A lot of the people undergoing dialysis unfortunately believe that they cannot lead a normal life or cannot do things an otherwise healthy person can do. I am proud to say that we are creating a guest-centric culture at NephroPlus where all the 10,000+ guests are empowered to lead a normal life owing to our emphasis on holistic care. This bike expedition and Olympiad are part of our overall vision to make those on dialysis realize their full potential.”
Adding to this, Sohil Bhagat, Vice President – Strategy, NephroPlus remarked, “This event echoes our fundamental belief that people on dialysis can lead normal lives. We are positive that seeing fellow people on dialysis take part in this expedition will dramatically improve the confidence of kidney-disease patients across India. I would like to extend special thanks to the heroic riders for participating in this event and for their contribution towards the cause of improving the morale of people on dialysis.”
