P. D. Hinduja Hospital to celebrate World Patient Safety Day on September 17, 2019

The hospital to create patient safety awareness amongst its patients and employees through various initiatives

Mumbai, September 18, 2019: The World Health Organization (WHO) which has declared September 17, 2019, as the first World Patient Safety Day.  As part of the WHO initiative, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mumbai will also create awareness about patient safety in a unique way on September 17, 2019.

In a first, the hospital will light up the iconic Hinduja Hospital building in ‘Orange’ colour as per the WHO colour code for patient safety.

As an awareness initiative, P. D. Hinduja Hospital on September 17, 2019 will distribute handouts inviting its in-patients and new patients to ‘Be our Patient Safety Partner’. To engage with the hospital patients, Mr. Boffin (our Patient Safety mascot) will go around the hospital and distribute a small kit containing hand wipes, mask, and sanitizer along with handouts. The hospital in the coming month will also host WHO patient safety assessors training in its premises to promote patient safety.

Other in-house initiatives to create awareness include:

1)      Digital posters, Standees, Posters on noticeboards – These communication materials will encourage visitors to ‘Be our Patient Safety Partner’ and will also display 5 Moments of Medication Safety (WHO Campaign)

2)      International Patient Safety Goals @ Nursing Stations throughout the hospital

3)      A CME on Rationale Use of Antibiotics by Dr. Anjali Shetty, Consultant Microbiologist and CPR training session by Dr. Khusrav Bajan, Consultant Intensivist & HOD Emergency Medicine and Dr. Rishi Kumar, Junior Consultant Intensivist.

4)      Training on Infection Prevention by healthcare providers

5)      Demonstration and training on Hand Hygeine session for school children at the Rural Health Programme

6)      The staff at the hospital has also been encouraged to follow the dress code colour “Orange” to promote World Patient Safety Day.
