Relaxo CSR Project with Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital

New Delhi, February 06, 2018: Relaxo Foundation and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital have signed MoU on 15th Jan’18 to implement jointly developed 3-year long project ‘Nayan’ in the Tijara block of Alwar district. The project will provide comprehensive quality and sustainable Eye care services from primary to secondary level to more than 2.5 lakh people of 187 villages of Tijara block.

The long term project goal is to create a positive and facilitative environment for positive health seeking behaviour in the under privileged sections so that early identification and treatment of ‘Avoidable Blindness’ is made possible in a self-sustainable quality oriented delivery system which furthers the  goal of Vision 2020.

According to Census of India 2011, out of total 121 crore population, approximately 1.21 crore are visually impaired. The main causes of blindness in India are Cataract (62.6%) Refractive Error (19.70%) Corneal Blindness (0.90%), Glaucoma (5.80%), Surgical Complication (1.20%) Posterior Capsular Opacification (0.90%) Posterior Segment Disorder (4.70%), Others (4.19%) Estimated National Prevalence of Childhood Blindness /Low Vision is 0.80 per thousand.

According to report on disabled population by Census of India, there are total 5033431 people who are certified by Government of India with disability related to eye out of which 314618 lives in Rajasthan and 16537 in Alwar.

The project will provide preventive, promotive and curative health services on eye care by involving all the Stakeholders like school teachers, ANM/ASHA, local leaders etc. Along with regular eye camps in the villages, the project will establish a Vision center in the Tapookara village that will be managed by the local female who will be trained by the SCEH in the project. Towards promotive and preventive eye care, the project will train teachers and ANM/ASHAs to do primary level screening that will help in timely identification of the cases and timely treatment as well. All identified surgeries will be supported by the project.

Through this initiative the Relaxo Foundation will be contributing towards the ‘Vision 2020’.
