Bengaluru, February 27, 2016: A ‘SPECIAL MEDIA INTERACTIVE SESSION’was held on 12th February 2016 to deliberate upon issues of improved agriculture, food systems, health & nutrition and growth in South Asia. This special interactive session will be the culminating session of the FIRST SOUTH ASIA REGIONAL CONSULTATION ON NUTRITION, AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SYSTEMS IN THE ERA OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT that is being jointly organised by PUBLIC HEALTH FOUNDATION OF INDIA (PHFI) IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GLOBAL PANEL ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SYSTEMS FOR NUTRITION AND RESEARCH AND INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES (RIS) held on 11th and 12th February 2016 at the Magnolia Hall, India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
AMBASSADOR SHYAM SARAN, FORMER FOREIGN SECRETARY TO THE GOVT. OF INDIA, AND SPECIAL ENVOY AND CHIEF NEGOTIATOR ON CLIMATE CHANGE, ALONG WITH DR K SRINATH REDDY, PRESIDENT PUBLIC HEALTH FOUNDATION OF INDIA, DR. SACHIN CHATURVEDI, DIRECTOR GENERAL (RIS), PROF. SANDY THOMAS, DIRECTOR, GLOBAL PANEL FOR AGRICULTURE & FOOD SYSTEMS FOR NUTRITION AND PROF . TOM ARNOLD; MEMBER, GLOBAL PANEL FOR AGRICULTURE & FOOD SYSTEMS FOR NUTRITION were the speakers, who covered issues related to Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture in South Asia; Food Security, Nutritional Security and Health in South Asia; Agriculture and Regional Food Chains in South Asia; and, Agriculture R&D and Cooperation in South Asia.
The two day summit, which had a declaration document released at the end of day two, assumes importance in the wake of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda comprising of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN in September, 2015 of which India is signatory. Key policymakers and experts from all South Asian nations are expected to join.
