Scavin Eyewear joins hands with Help Age India to fight avoidable blindness

· Cataract has been documented to be the most significant cause of bilateral blindness in India

· From around 1.2 million cataract surgeries per year in the 1980s,the cataract surgical output increased to 3.9 million per year by 2003.

· India is committed to the goal of elimination of avoidable blindness by 2020 in line with the Global Vision 2020: the right to sight initiative

Mumbai, November 03, 2015: In India cataract has been reported to be responsible for 50-80% of the bilaterally blind in the country. As the 60+ population is slated to increase to over a 100 million mark by 2016 the population “at-risk” of blinding cataract is also deemed to increase.

Cases of abandoned and ignored elderly who seldom are given proper care and treatment is also growing. In such circumstances most of them who suffer from Cataract are mostly left to lead a very uncomfortable life.

Scavin believes in taking every possible initiate to work towards society and return what is gained. Through this initiative we also wish to sensitive the community towards the elderly who are most of the times shunned by their families.
