SCHOTT Glass India Announces Winners of its third FIOLAX® Scholarship Program

· SCHOTT Glass India awards ten pharmacy students from Maharashtra and Gujarat in its endeavor to support higher studies in the sector

· With seven scholarships, girl students outperform boys for the third consecutive year

Mumbai, February 02, 2017: Ten meritorious students from Maharashtra and Gujarat have won the SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship for the year 2016. The winners, pursuing Bachelors and Masters in Pharmacy, were identified on the basis of a rigorous selection process lasting nearly three months.

Seven Pharmacy students including Ms. Yashica Chandrakant Shah, Ms. Zehra Shabbir Motiwala, Mr. Nachiket Dandekar, Ms. Yogita Shivaji Shinde, Ms. Richa Pravin Rajput, Mr. Chandradarshan Jain and Ms. Sneha O. Singh are winners from Mumbai, while Ms. Khyati J. Ashtekar, Ms. Margi Vipul Gandhi and Ms. Aparna Prasad are winners from Gujarat. These winners were given gift cheques of Rs. 25,000 each by Mr. Sundeep Prabhu, Vice President Sales and Marketing, SCHOTT Glass India Pvt. Ltd at a special awards ceremony held recently. The scholarship holders are also entitled to an exclusive tour of SCHOTT Glass India’s pharmaceutical tubing plant located in Gujarat’s Jambusar District.

“This is the third consecutive year that we’ve successfully run the SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship program. We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm of participating students and teachers alike, which has grown tremendously over the years. This means that although the shortlisting process becomes more difficult, we feel immensely proud of these hard-working students who strive to excel in the field of pharmacy,” said Mr. Prabhu.

Talking about the main objective behind identifying Pharmacy talent through the SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship program, Mr. Prabhu added, “Be it R&D or supporting professionals in the sector, SCHOTT India is dedicated to contribute towards the overall development of the industry. The scholarship program, in particular, is aimed at stimulating the young minds, and is inspired by the motto “Catch them young and watch them grow”. Moreover, the winners would cherish such memories during their stint in the Pharmaceutical industry.”

SCHOTTs Business Unit Tubing launched the SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship program in the Pharmacy colleges in Mumbai in 2014 for students joining mainstream Pharmaceuticals in departments such as R&D, Purchase, Packaging and Development.

Including the winners for 2016, 25 students have been beneficiaries of the SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship programme till date. Some of the winners have achieved tremendous success in higher education and have carved out promising careers in industry as well as in academic fields. Ms. Saloni Jain, one of the first winners of the SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship, is presently working as Assistant Professor in St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research in Palghar near Mumbai.

The faculty members of several leading Pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra and Gujarat have highly appreciated the initiative of SCHOTT FIOLAX® Program and its objective. “I have been associated with the program since its first year, and it is great to see this initiative to be growing further. The students these days, need as much guidance as possible. To have such global organizations for their support, is a great boost for them to perform better,” said Dr. Anuradha Majumdar, Prof. Bombay College of Pharmacy.

Third year Bachelors in Pharma and final year Masters in Pharma students who secure above 70 percent marks in the first two years of the course are eligible to participate in the program. The eligible students are required to submit an essay accompanied by an application through the office of their college principal to SCHOTT FIOLAX® Scholarship program. The candidates are then shortlisted based on their academic performance and content of the essay and interviewed by a panel comprising of senior members of SCHOTT Pharmaceutical Tubing sales team and a faculty member from a leading Pharmacy college.
