Siddaganga Hospital and Research Centre (SHRC) trains Tumakuru Police Personnel on Road Safety & Basic Life Support (BLS)

Tumakuru,  August 30, 2019: Siddaganga Hospital and Research Centre (SHRC), a leading super-specialty hospital in Tumakuru announced the launch of Road Safety & Basic Life Support (BLS) Training Program for Tumakuru Police Personnel today. The announcement was made by Dr. Shivanna Paramesh, Managing Director – SHRC in the presence of Sri Sri Siddalinga Mahaswamiji, Pontiff – Siddaganga Mutt, Dr. Umashankar, Chairman – SHRC and Dr. Kona Vamsikrishna, SP, Tumakuru Police. SHRC has partnered with Tumakuru Police, regarded as the Guardians of Tumakuru’s roads, to spread awareness about the essential steps that need to be taken to support victims of roads accidents or other medical emergencies on the road.

Under this month-long program, SHRC will provide Tumakuru Police a 360-degree training program on BLS, a method of non-invasive emergency procedure to assist in the immediate survival in case of a medical emergency without the use of any medications. It aims to provide prompt medical interventions to save a victim within the ‘Golden Hour’, even prevent death. Golden hour refers to a window of time, after a traumatic injury in which a victim’s chances of survival is significantly higher if immediate medical attention is administered. BLS training includes providing a basic knowledge on life-saving techniques which will help prepare a person for emergency situations to care and save the lives of others. It also includes critical thinking and problem-solving skills and be able to work as part of a team to deliver the best care possible and improve patient outcomes.

*The Global Status Report on Road Safety 2013 estimated that more than 2,31,000 people were killed in road crashes in India every year. Approximately, half of all deaths on the country’s roads include vulnerable road users, mainly motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists. A heterogenous mix that includes high-speed vehicles sharing the road space with road users as well as improper road infrastructure and vehicles that are in poor condition, all contribute to the high fatality rates seen on India’s roads. To address this issue, SHRC has launched the BLS program for the Guardians of Tumakuru Roads – first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals to provide emergency medical care for every road accident victim.

Keeping this in mind, we have associated with Tumakuru Police department and launched the BLS training program to empower and enable them to provide emergency medical care on road.
