Bengaluru, June 22, 2016: On Friday Timken Foundation donated the latest 120 slice CT scanner manufactured by Philips to Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bengaluru with an objective of encouraging young Indians to detect coronary artery disease before it causes a devastating heart attack. The equipment installed at an exclusive section for Radiology and Imaging at the hospital was inaugurated by Mr. Philip D. Fracassa, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, The Timken Company in the presence of Dr. Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairman, Narayana Health along with senior cardiac specialists and staff of Narayana Health City. Also present on the occasion was Mr. Sanjay Koul, Managing Director, Timken India Limited. The occasion marked the launch of early detection program for heart disease among children and adults.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Devi Shetty said, “Large numbers of Indians suffer from heart disease. Indians are three times more vulnerable for heart attack than Europeans. Indians develop heart attack at a much younger age. Fortunately today, most of the coronary artery diseases among young Indians can be detected at least 10 years ahead of the heart attack by undergoing a five seconds scan to demonstrate blockages in the coronary artery”. He further stated, “Unfortunately, there is a general ignorance about the simplicity of the test and the methodology available to prevent progression of the coronary artery disease”.
A privilege card by Narayana Health City was also released on the occasion for the employees of Timken India Limited.

The machine can detect heart defects in just five seconds”, he added.
The advanced CT scan will be available for the underprivileged population for an extremely low cost and even free for deserving patients, informed Dr. Devi Shetty.
