Finland, 18th October 2014 – Labsystems Diagnostics OY, a Trivitron Healthcare Enterprise has signed a MOU today at Helsinki in the presence of Hon. President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee along with The University of Turku, and Indian Translational Health Science Technology Institute (THSTI). This Indo-Finland initiative will be first of its kind in developing an affordable medical point of care diagnostics device for use in India and other developing countries. This diagnostic platform can be used for testing cardiac troponin-I for acute coronary syndrome and the same can be used for high sensitive detection of several other parameters like Infectious diseases, Cancer Markers, New Born Screening panel etc. The research was funded by Indian Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation) & the Academy of Finland.
The Memorandum of Understanding is a manifestation of the results achieved over many years of joint research efforts for developing a cost effective & quick result yielding diagnostic platform by the signing partners. Labsystem diagnostics and its parent company Trivitron, with large manufacturing and marketing network in India, Africa and Asia, is all set to ensure a wide reach for this newly developed platform. This UCP based highly sensitive point of care device will revolutionise the point of care testing needs with very high sensitive platform available at low cost points like other lateral flow devices. The kits for these platform will be produced in Labsystems Finland and in the upcoming new facility in Trivitron Medical Technology park in Chennai .

Apart from this MOU we are signing two other MOUs with University of Turku and Nordic Institute for Dental Education to focus on Skill Development initiatives in Healthcare sector with focus on advanced medical technologies.”
In the Memorandum of Understanding the partners are jointly initiating developmental work towards the release of this new diagnostic platform, which combines the expertise of the partners on biomarkers, molecular detection, assay technologies and portable and affordable reader devices. The aim is to develop high performing yet easy-to-use diagnostic tests for near-patient use in both developed and developing countries. The diagnostic platform will act as a boon for patients with critical medical conditions such as myocardial infarction, infectious diseases diagnosis, early cancer detection etc.
Trivitron Healthcare also signed a memorandum with The University of Turku on the same day to manifest their intentions to jointly promote academic training and research in Finland and India within the field of in vitro diagnostics along with establishment of Skill Development institute in India . Through close collaboration in translational research and development, the partners seek to develop unique expertise for the design of novel, simple and affordable diagnostic tests and test platforms to the global market. This will be achieved by encouraging exchange of researchers as well as recruitment of students to the international master’s degree and doctoral programmes of the University of Turku.
A third memorandum was also signed between Trivitron Healthcare, Planmeca OY & Nordic Institute of Dental Education . The purpose of the Memorandum is to enhance business and educational cooperation between Planmeca, NIDE and Trivitron and to expand the offering of dental technology and knowhow in India by running Skill Development courses in India to the dental community.
