Two Days International Conference Organized by Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur

Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur organized International Conference on the title “Frontiers in Pharmaceutical Science & Research” with the theme “Cutting Edge Technology in New Drug Discovery & Drug Delivery System” on 11th – 12th October 2014. This conference was organized in association with Society for Ethnopharmacology, India (Chhattisgarh Local Chapter). The venue of the Conference was Hotel GT Star, Airport Road, Raipur (CG).The conference was sponsored by Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology, Raipur (CG), Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi, & Janpragati Education Society, Raipur (CG).The organizers received No Objection Certificate/ Political Clearance from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi & Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

Mr. Kishore Jadwani, Chief Patron & Chairman, Janpragati Education Society, Raipur delivered welcome speech. He also shared the history of Columbia Group of Institution. He also encouraged the participants to work hard to achieve their aim. Prof. Amit Roy, Organizing Chairman & Principal, Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur briefed the gathering about the importance of the theme. He also emphasized on the need of developing new drugs and delivery systems. Mr. Sanjib Bahadur, Organizing Secretary & Asst. Prof., Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur presented an overview of the conference. Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Chief Guest & Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur emphasized on importance of discovering new drug. Prof. Shailendra Saraf, Guest of Honor & Professor, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, during his address appealed the delegates and researchers to work for the betterment of general mass and poor people. Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Special Guest & Director, School of Natural Products, Jadavpur University, Kolkata briefed the gathering about the formation and history of Society for Ethnopharmacology, India. He explained the basic objectives and vision behind the conceptualization of SFE, India. Abstract book of the conference was released during the Inaugural session. More than 360 abstracts were published in the abstract book. The Inaugural session was completed with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Harjeet Singh Hura. Eminent speakers from different organizations from USA, Bangladesh, Singapore and India shared their research experience with the gatherings.

More than 256 posters were presented during the session. The posters were judged by panel of Judges and 05 posters were adjudged best posters. The winners were awarded with certificate of merit during Valedictory Session.

Mr. Kishore Jadwani delivered welcome speech. He shared that this kind of conference is being organized for the first time in Chhattisgarh. He also briefed about the hard work and devotion shown during the conceptualization and execution of the conference. Prof. Mukund M. Hambarde, Chief Guest & Director General, Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology (CGCOST), Raipur called upon the Institutes to establish small scale industries so that students and researchers get information regarding the Industry. He encouraged researchers to carry out research and discover new drugs with sole intention to benefit humanity. Prof. Swarnalata Saraf, Guest of Honor & Dean & Director, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur emphasized on publicity to be given to new drug after its discovery so that medical professionals can get information about the same. Dr. Graziano Pinna, Special Guest & Associate Professor, Psychiatric Institute, University of Illinois, Chicago, USA shared his experience with the gatherings. This was Dr. Pinna’s first visit to India and he has very fond memories about India. He urged researchers to collaborate with researchers from other countries and have more meaningful research.
