Kochi, October 07, 2014 – UST Global today unveiled an advanced telemedicineapplication, conceptualised by Dr Pavan Kumar, head of the department of cardiovascular surgery and telemedicine centre at Nanavati Super Specialty Hospital, in collaboration with BlackBerry India.
The new application is a BlackBerry10 based mobile application which enables the hospital staff to provide clinical healthcare at remote locations. The app helps improve access to medical specialists that was often not consistently available in the hinterland. Dr Kumar said the app allows patients to get healthcare assistance through a click of the smart devices.
According to a recent study, 40-45 per cent reduction in expenditures of rural patients’ treatments can be achieved by addressing the problem of physical accessibility of healthcare facilities. The application allows the remote clinic staff record the visiting patients’ demographics, vital signs, illness details, preliminary diagnosis information and uploads existing medical reports.
The telemedicine mobile application offers enhanced security using BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10).
UST Global plans to make the application available on other mobile platforms and integrate with various medical devices to allow doctors to perform real-time diagnostics of the patient remotely. More advanced features like integration with Google Glass are also planned for the future release, he added. Business standard
