Ahmedabad, April 16, 2020: Amidst the pandemic and the lockdown, the mental health of people is taking a toll. Addressing this, Cadila Pharmaceuticals has initiated various programs to help people cope.

Under their campaign ‘Care and Caution’, accomplished psychologists from across the country come together to talk about the various steps people can take to come out healthier after the lockdown. The doctors talked about various mental health issues and exchanged knowledge and information to ensure that everyone can get the help they need.

Dr Rajesh Maniar, HOD GIPS Hospital – Ahmedabad, said “While everyone is taking precautions at home, healthcare workers and essential service professionals are out in the open ensuring smooth functioning. They may be prone to panic and stress. It is important for them to give themselves space from the crisis and keep taking frequent breaks.”

Dr Himanshu Desai, Senior Psychiatrist GIPS, Ahmedabad says “The situation is challenging for elderly people who live alone. Apart from physical ailments they feel very lonely which might result into various mental health issues. Hence I advise everyone to keep checking up on their elderly neighbours and give them their time.”

Dr Minakshi Parikh, HOD Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad had a message for the relatives of COVID-19 affected patients “If you have come in contact with a COVID-19 patient, you surely have to undergo a 14 day self-quarantine period. This might become very lonely in addition to the stress and worry. In such a situation the best way to keep yourself in good spirits is to keep talking to friends and family. Keep yourself away from negative news and stay optimistic.”

Dr Natu Patel from Himmatnagar and Dr Mahesh Desai from Surat had some tips for the general public “Keep engaging yourself in various activities. Limit your screen time and indulge in hobbies such as cooking, reading a book, listening to music etc. These are a great source of releasing endorphins in your body and can help you stay motivated.”

Dr Vijay Nagecha, Senior Psychiatrist talked about seeking professional help “If the situation becomes too much to take on, you can seek professional help on phone or on an online portal. Remember seeking out for help will only help you get stronger.”

Cadila Pharmaceuticals along with ‘Care and Caution’ program has been taking various initiatives for the health of people. Cadila in association with top professionals has launched a helpline called ‘Care Connect’ for Gujarat where people can consult a registered medical professional for all their non-emergency medical issues. Care Connect is a unique initiative where doctors from the state have volunteered their time to provide medical support to anyone who needs it. People can dial in to 6356902900 and get medical support while sitting at home and do not have to put themselves at risk.
