Hyderabad, March 4, 2018…. Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan launched Mobile Blood Donation van here in the city at Ameerpet at Rotary Challa Blood Bank at Dharamkaran Road on Sunday morning. The Van is procured at an investment of Rs 25 lakh
Rotary Club is also launched the upgraded blood bank facilities at its existing blood bank with the state of art equipment to support the cause of treatment for Thalassemia Children. On this they invested Rs 40 lakh. All together on the mobile Blood donation van and upgraded facilities, Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan invested Rs 65 lakh. This facility enables it to supply free blood to the children suffering from this rare blood disorder.
According to President Som Dutt Sharma of Rotary Club of Hyd Deccan, the total cost of the project is Rs 65 lakh, of which Rotary Deccan raised Rs 13lakh, Rotary Club of Naperville of USA contributed Rs 22lakh the balance was raised by Rotary International Foundation which gave them a matching grant.
We want to make Rotary Challa Blood Bank, one of the best in the city very soon, informed Som Dutta Sharma The mobile van is equipped with everything necessary for blood donation procedures like collection equipment, donor beds and short term storage solutions. It is expected to significantly increase the outreach of blood collection efforts.
The upgradation includes the addition of critical equipment for collecting, storing and processing blood, as well as refurbishment of the Blood Bank premises.

Addressing the gathering, Vikas Raj, IAS, Principal Secretary and Commissioner R&R, I & CAD and PR Dept, Govt of Telangana said there is a gap between the need by the society and the services offered by Government. Rotary District Governor Abrahim J while addressing the gathering said free blood services will be provided to Thalasaemia children.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Chaitanya Challa, Managing Partner of Challa Hospital said, twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderab have 65 blood banks. There are only six blood banks of Rotary Challa Blood Bank Types. While we are one, the rest of the five belong to Corporate Hosptials, he informed.
Our target is reach 300 units of blood collection every month. 30 per cent of blood collected will be provided free of cost to MNJ Cancer Children Hospital. Thalasaemia children will also get blood free of cost, informed Praveen, one of the members.
Thalassaemia is a rare genetic blood disorder that affects children due to defective synthesis of hemoglobin. Under the National Blood Transfusion Council guidelines, it is mandatory to provide blood immediately to thalassaemia patients. These patients need to come to the blood bank every 15-20days for transfusion.
