Bengaluru, September 13, 2021: With growing number of two wheeler fatalities in Bengaluru city roads, citizens & residents have been clamouring for strict measures to ensure safety of road users to protect the lives of riders. The Bengaluru Traffic Police report shows nearly 22, 02,032 cases were booked till July 2021 for riders without helmet and around 240 deaths have happened on road during half year till July. Around 60% of fatal accidents involve two wheelers either causing them or affected by them. To tackle this, the State Government has been conducting various drives and awareness campaign on Road Safety across Bengaluru cities.
In connection with this, Pramod Srinivas, founder of youth organization Rashtriya Yuva Prathishtana has joined hands with Bengaluru Traffic Police to create awareness on road safety with a campaign ‘Wear mask, wear helmet, stay safe’.
The event was flagged off by Mr. Muniraju Gowda, Member of Legislative Council, Karnataka and Mr L. Srinivas, Former Deputy Mayor, BBMP Corporater earlier this morning from Town Hall. The Rashtriya Yuva Prathistana played a documentary to highlight the traffic violations and the importance therefore of wearing helmet and masks.
The awareness drive saw a 100 youth take out a bike rally with ‘Wear Mask & Wear Helmet’ message. The bikers followed a specific route from Town Hall to Ulsoor Police Station Gate via Corporation Road.
This was followed by a one minute mime by the youth at various traffic signals across the city to drive home the message of road safety. The mime performed creatively by young theater artistes very expressively sent out a message to the riders to always wear a helmet and a mask.
“We took this initiative to make commuters aware of safety. When you travel, road safety is essential and at present when corona fear has not gone we need to wear mask. We always see that people who commute on vehicle they are careless about helmet and mask as well. So at traffic junctions we are performing a small but meaning mime to make people aware of these two safety guards,” explains Pramod Srinivas.
