The conference showcased the best of the healthcare and medical tourism industry under one roof

Mumbai, March 11, 2017: The Times Group in association with World Medical Tourism Congress (WMTC) introduced the first Asia Medical Tourism Congress India (ASTCI). The two day conference held over 7th& 8th of March, 2017 at Crown Plaza, Greater Noida saw the largest congregation of medical fraternity who deliberated on current market challenges and strategies that will help India to be the next leader in the medical tourism industry.

The conference played host to some very thought-provoking interactions on India’s Medical Travel Sector – Trends, Opportunities and Challenges, Advanced Medical Travel Marketing,Medical Travel from Africa and Middle East and Medical Travel Opportunities for International Insurance Companies. Other interesting aspects that were discussed at the event include The Future of Healthcare and Insurance in the GCC region, using Medical Tourism Technology to Power your Healthcare Business and Governmental Partnership in Medical Travel. India ranks among the leading medical tourism destinations in Asia due to the low cost of treatment, high quality of healthcare infrastructure and the widespread availability of highly-skilled doctors. Rising healthcare costs in developed countries and an increase in the numbers of the uninsured has also driven the expansion of the medical tourism industry by more than 25% annually.

Deepak Lamba,President, Times Strategic Solutions, commented on the event saying, “India is poised to play a critical role in the global medical tourism sector given the country’s resources of top doctors and an affordable healthcare system. We at The Times Group are glad to associate with the largest Medical Tourism Congress to bring the first episode of The Asia Medical Tourism Congress India. This conference aims to give India the required impetus to reach the next level and achieve newer successes in the global medical tourism industry.”

Jonathan Edelheit, CEO, Medical Tourism Association, shared his views in one of the sessions, “There has to be sophistication in the offering that organisations make and it has to be different. They just can’t have patients log into a pretty website as the competition is growing regionally and globally. You can’t be stagnant, because what worked yesterday doesn’t necessarily work today.”

Dr. Mhevof India giving his inputs towards the summit said, “India in today’s time is specifically known for medical tourism. We are trying to address all issues related to medical tourism through a single clearance window. India now has a simplified e-medical visa facility which allows you 3 visits to the country. We will try to address more issues in time to come, like standardization and accreditation of services. We want to make the processes transparent, to rationalize services and make them all of them available in a transparent manner so that no one is deprived of much needed healthcare services”.

The other notable speakers present at the event were Pronab Sarkar, President, Indian Association of Tour Operators, Jeanine Bowen, COO, Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, Nigeria, Dr. Geeta Jotwani, Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr. Prathibha Shetty, Principal Scientist, Reliance Lifesciences, Dr. H.S. Chhabra, Chief of Spine Service & Medical Director, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, B. S. Bedi, COO, Telemedicine Society of India and Sherene AzuraAzli, CEO, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council.
